Speaker Bio: Jerry Franklin

Jerry Franklin, The Good Dog Show Podcast

Jerry Franklin possesses more than two decades of professional experience across all forms of media. Among his many other activities he is the audio engineer for The Good Dog Show, a podcast on dog training, which he also co-hosts and co-produces with his wife Kate Knight, a certified dog trainer.

Jerry began his media career as a newswriter and segment producer for CBS, NBC, and CNN. He then became a writer and producer of corporate videos, and a freelance technology journalist. In 1994 he transitioned into new media, editing the world's first CD-ROM-based newsmagazine.

For the last 12 years Jerry has written and produced Web content, marketing collateral, and software documentation for numerous technology startups as well as for some of the world's largest technology companies, including Microsoft, PeopleSoft, and Intel.

Jerry is also a professional performer, having appeared in a drama off-off Broadway, in nightclubs with an improvisational comedy troupe in Chicago, and at Carnegie Hall and Chicago's Orchestra Hall with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. His classical training as a singer has endowed him with an excellent ear, which has served him extraordinarily well in parsing sound files in Audacity. His experience as a tech writer has been wonderfully complementary, helping him to plumb Audacity's intricacies and enabling him to talk about the technology in clear, concise, and highly-accessible language.

Jerry possesses a bachelor's degree in speech from Northwestern University. He resides in Alameda, California, with his wife and their two dogs.
