Speaker Bio: Corey Denis
Corey Denis IODA
Corey Denis joined IODA, the Independent Online Distribution Alliance, as their Digital Marketing Manager, with roots thriving in independent music. IODA is the industry-leading digital distribution company for the global independent music community. Run by an experienced team of digital music experts with a passion for independent music, IODA distributes thousands of releases from independent labels to digital music outlets around the world.
Prior to joining IODA, Corey spent 6+ years in the music industry, working at indie labels in tour promotion, marketing, research, A&R, production and eventually, online marketing development. Corey pioneered and nurtured the first What Are Records New Media Marketing department which resulted in a sharp increase in digital sales, artist exposure and even increased ticket sales to live events. Fueling a number of successful & innovative digital media campaigns for artists such as Billboard topper comedian Stephen Lynch, Fancey (Todd & Kurt from New Pornographers), Figurine (the postal service/ dntl side project), and funk legend Maceo Parker, as well as developing artist social spaces, podcasts and blogs, and helping What Are Records become one of the first indie labels selling content on the iTunes Music Store, What Are Records deemed Corey their "Digital Wonder."
In addition to her work with What Are Records, Corey worked as a music supervisory consultant for indie films. While managing & booking rock bands, promoting artistry online and editing liner notes, Corey also produced and directed Guerrilla Wordfare, a hip hop/ spoken word/ art festival in Boulder, CO, 2003 - 2004 which proved successful through heavy online/ new media promotion.
As Digital Marketing Manager at IODA, Corey works directly with Podcasters, Bloggers, Zines, Internet Radio & DIY Media creators, to expose indie music - both new, old, familiar and obscure - to innovative online communities across the globe. Promonet enables podcasters to legally download, play and promote/ review music from the vast IODA catalog of independent labels & music. Corey has been with IODA one year and is happy to have landed "my dream job, where digital media and music converge."
